FTOPS VI

Fourteen events in the fifth Full Tilt Online Poker Series just weren’t enough for the thousands of regulars who play on one of the world’s largest online poker sites. Coming complete with a full download for Mac users, Full Tilt consistently tries to outdo itself, especially when it comes to the FTOPS. To put it in perspective, the number of tournaments that made up FTOPS VI was equal to the number played in the 1999 World Series of Poker. Yes, the buy-ins were a little different, but the feat is pretty amazing. Much to Full Tilt’s glee, the winner of the FTOPS VI Main Event was fkscreennames, who navigated his way through the 4,371 player field en route to a $385,937.45 payday. The $535 buy-in tournament easily broke its $2 million guarantee and helped change the lives of the 19 players who cashed for more than $10,000.

Coming in second in the Main Event was southside1, who cashed for $233,629.95, not a bad consolation prize for second place by any means. Others at the final table included mendieta19 (third for $152,985.00), kavicarter (fourth for $120,202.50), eisenhower1 (fifth for $90,261.15), 007Paghman (sixth for $66,876.30), THEONE213 (seventh for $50,266.50), SwingRoll (eighth for $39,339.00), and HipHopNDontStop (ninth for $29,285.70). Full Tilt Poker pro Eddy Scharf, a professional pilot who won a gold bracelet at the 2001 WSOP, finished in 22nd. The top 585 places paid out.

The $2,620 buy-in tournament was back in the sixth FTOPS. It made its debut in FTOPS V and attracted such a huge turnout that Full Tilt could not resist the urge to bring it back one more time. The event (#13) drew 698 players, about 50 more than in FTOPS V. The big payday went to wuddacooler, who cashed for $418,800.00. Heads up, he defeated Kongsgaard, who took home $261,750.00. Full Tilt pro and online poker player extraordinaire Aaron “GambleAB” Bartley, who can regularly be seen sporting his Full Tilt Poker jersey at major live events, made the final table and finished sixth for $78,525. Five players cashed for over $100,000; 15 players cashed for more than $10,000.

Events 7 and 8 each boasted a prize pool of $1.3 million. Event #7 was a $322 no limit tournament that brought in 4,475 players. Braien emerged victorious from this field, taking home $237,072.08. Cashing for the $143,513.25 second place prize was crpaint. Twelve players cashed for more than $10,000; 585 cashed in total. Event #7 sported the largest tournament field in the sixth FTOPS, featuring 4,475 players. To put that in perspective, 4,475 players is more than the first four tournaments of the first FTOPS combined.

Event #8 was a six-max, $1,060 buy-in tournament that featured 1,332 of the world’s best short-handed players battling it out. Although it might not seem like a huge difference, playing at a six-handed table requires a completely different strategy than playing nine- or ten-handed. Winning a quarter of a million dollars for first place in this tournament was uuhhhicall, who bested TopTizzlePizzle heads up. TopTizzlePizzle cashed for $155,178.

Other FTOPS VI winners included blur5f6, Crisp86, mischiefofmagic, allaround22, and Greg__Chimp. The total prize pool of the 16 events topped $10 million. You read that right, $10 million. Needless to say, the FTOPS had grown into one of the premier events offered online. Business would continue to pick up for the seventh installment.
